FAQ’s 13 May 2010

No-one has asked me questions yet, (feel free to!) but to save your time emailing and waiting…

Q: How come you use the word “diet?” arent you all for long term health?

A: When I say “diet” I dont mean stick thin-fad-lemon juice-cleansing. I mean “the food I choose to eat” or my eating plan for life. I strive for a balanced diet, and I am trying to make it healthier.

Q: Do you count calories? Fat grams? Carbs?

A: Yes and no. I plan meals and I do a rough in-my-head calculation for each meal or snack to ensure I’m not going overboard. For me its about balance and portions. If I start getting out of control I temporaily count until I’m balanced again.  I count  calcium and sometimes fibre, and am always trying to eat more iron.

Q: Ok, then why do you post calorie info ? And eat diet foods?

A: Well I post everything-of-signifance info! Lots of people have different ideas about health and how to manage it, so anything that catches my eye, I’ll put up. Also I find nutritional info GENERALLY gives you a good idea about fitting certain foods into your diet.

Q: How often do you exercise?

A: As I am a lazy bug, I take every opportunity to exercise if I can convince myself. I VERY rarely feel like a run but once I start, I can usally keep going. When I am in a routine, I usually do five x  1 hour session/week, and incidental exercise (like walking) on the side.  I do a mix of weights and cardio, but prefer to go to classes or fitness videos. I like to mix it up, and follow new programs from magazines and books. I really want to try outdoor rock climbing and parkour.  Travel makes it difficult so I have bought some travel equiptment. More on that in my favourite things post to come soon!

Q: Why do you use weird words or spell things funny? What does XYZ mean?

A: I’m an Aussie…(that’s Australian) although I am told I am pretty americanised. Its more how we prounce things than say them. Here’s a quick glossary. If you want more words added let me know!

Aussie= Australian!
Capsicum=  peppers (like green or red peppers)
Prawn = Shrimp. Sometimes we use the word shrimp for very little prawns
Sanga = Sandwhich. We tend to shorten words. So a cup of tea becomes a “cuppa”
Skipping rope = jump rope. Once I had to mime the actions to an american to explain what I was talking about. Perhpas he knew, but was just fooling me?
Rockmelon = Cantalope
Thongs= Not the underwear, flip-flops
Yum Cha = not really aussie slang, but americans use the term Dim Sum. Its a chinese-style of meal consitsing of lots of plates of dumplings and snacks that comes out on trollies, with lots of te a usally had for an early lunch.

Q: Why don’t you post photos of yourself/write about work or where you are specifically?

A: One, I am a little shy. Two, I’m afraid of abuse of my personal information –  either ambushing me while I’m out and about (with my parents or for work!) or maybe use knowledge about my job to their advantage. I hope you can respect that I like to keep my social and work lives apart. The company I work for isnt keen about people advertising their positions as they have been bitten before.

Q: What’s your  favourite….
Food
– HAHAHA, you acnt ask someone with a FOOD BLOG that. If I had to pick the last thing to eat tho it would be a jar of peanut butter (not the natural stuff, and LOTS Of chunks) with a block of cadbury hazelnut chocolate to dip in!…. Or a turkish feast… or…
Drink – Mint lemonade but the hard stuff? Baileys with butterscotch schnappes
